Epified: Krishna, Episodes 1-10

Krishna Comes- An Introduction
  • Story of Krishna
  • Enemies before he was born
  • Was not of our world but we were of his
  • His story came alongside the Pandavas
1. Kamsa
  • Same day born as Indra's son w/ Kunthi
  • Kamsa a bad and cruel ruler
  • Prophecy: 8th child of Devaki would be his downfall so Kamsa threw Devaki and her hubby in prison and killed each child as they were born
  • The 7th child was transported to the womb of Rohini and seen as a miscarriage for Devaki
  • When Devaki was pregnant with Krishna, light filled the prison; word reached Kamsa that Krishna, his slayer had been born
2. Vasudev Meets Yamuna
  • Vasudev fears for his son; they escaped but Devaki was left behind (the great sleep)
  • Vasudev went to the Yamuna and surrendered to it; serpent protected him, allowing him to cross
  • Reached a camp on the other side and switched babies with Yashoda's child, Maya
3. Durga Speaks to Kamsa
  • Kamsa has a bad nightmare/an omen; wondered what shape his death had taken
  • Saw a newborn girl (switched baby) and thought he held the secret to immortality
  • Baby girl turned into Durga (this was his dream); Durga warns him and his destiny could not be escaped
  • Devaki and Vasudev remained in prison
4. Putana
  • Yashoda realises the baby is a boy now and her hubby brought her another one
  • Kamsa slaughtered hundreds of babies nearby out of fear
  • Everyone loved Krishna, (and Balarama)
  • Putana comes to help take care of the boys, but ends up being a demoness (and sent by Kamsa)
  • She wanted to poison him with her breastmilk and when he fed, he actually fed on her life 
5. Maakhan Chor
  • Krishna cannot escape evil and trouble; but he also became a troublemaker himself (loved troubling gopies) with his brother Balarama 
  • Became known as the boy who stole butter; Yashoda always scolded Krishna
  • One day, Krishna was being naughty eating mud
6. Krishna's mouth
  • Krishna opens his mouth!- Yashoda beholds the universe in his mouth; she was not the mother of just a child but another entity entirely
7. Dreams and Music
  • Strange dreams filled heads of people in Gokul
  • Krishna and Balarama explored and Krishna became interested in music
  • Lake with Kaliya the snake; poisoned children
  • Krishna started dancing to his own music on top of the snake's head (like Shiva's Nataraja); with Kaliya defeated, it was clear Krishna was an avatar
8. Kamsa's Terror 
  • Krishna's life was naughty and bizarre; he stole clothes from bathing women (rme)
  • Krishna overpowered a tornado by choking it; defeated a giant crane with his brother
9. The Govardhan Hill
  • Krishna convinced the camp to worship a Hill instead of Indra which angered the king of the gods
  • He lifted the hill with his little finger and it protected the people from Indra's storm; Indra begs Krishna
10. Radha's love 
  • Krishna would mesmerise gopies with music but only loved Radha
  • They were linked-Radha drank scalding milk and Krishna suffered the burns
  • She washed her feet for him even if it meant hell

I may  be biased, but Barbados has some of the most beautiful beaches in the region. It's 166 sq miles big (or small maybe haha), and has a population of about approximately 300, 000. Week 5 Story: "Sita, Warrior of the Earth"

A warrior of the Earth. Source : Flickr Let me tell you the version of the story they never tell. I was not just the daughter of the Earth, I was her warrior. At the time of my birth, my parents believed I was only a gift from the goddess. Some called her Bhudevi, others called her Bhumi, but while growing up in the kingdom of Videha, she was only known to me as Mother Earth. There were times I thought I felt her presence with me, watching and guiding with a gentle care. When I was very young, I had a keen interest in weaponry and martial arts. I felt as though I was stitched together with fight in my bones, a quick wit and sharp tongue as my aid when physical strength failed me. Although my father forbade me from learning the art of war publicly, he allowed one of his trusted soldiers to train me privately.
